Leadership for a better world


We expect to receive applications from school leavers in the UK, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and southern Africa. Successful candidates are likely to have the attributes listed below.

  1. Qualifications: a good standard of general education; a Lifeguard certificate is an advantage.
  2. Skills: effective leadership and team working skills; good verbal communication skills; good IT skills; good sporting prowess or skills in non-sport extra-curricular activities; excellent time management; and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
  3. Personal Qualities: honesty and integrity; friendly, outgoing and confident; conscientious; self-motivated and enthusiastic; initiative and common sense; flexibility; an ability to develop a culture of respect with students from a wide range of nationalities, including those only one year younger than a Gap Student; willingness to take on responsibility with supervision; willingness to integrate into the life of Harrow International School and a boarding house in particular; willingness to learn and embrace the local culture; and good general health. All Gap Tutors are assigned to and accommodated in a Prep boarding House, and are expected to contribute effectively to the life of that boarding House. There is a training programme that supports the involvement of Gap Tutors in School life and a formal assessment process to monitor progress.

In 2018-19, there will be opportunities for three boys and three girls.
